DESCRIBE YOUR ARTS CHALLENGE

My artform I have chosen to analyse and explore for my Arts Award is special effects (a.k.a visual effects).

My aspiration for this choice is my interest in special effects and the potential they have. I have found that special effects have recently played a great part on cinema today and they open up the world of film to new lengths which could never be stepped in not long ago. What I personally love about special effects is that it is an extremely powerful tool that can be used to create new worlds. I like that through special effects, I am able to do things that are not possible in real life.

Strengths and weaknesses relating to my Arts Challenge:

• I have gained knowledge in a few special effects suites (primarily FXHome HitFilm and Adobe After Effects)
•  I have edited using special effects for the past 2 years now
• I am able to composite special effects into real life footage

• I do not have much knowledge with compositing 3-Dimensional special effects and compositing these effects in a 3D space
• The special effects I have previously done in short films I’ve made are obvious that they are special effects and do not look incredibly real

My personal action plan is to start using special effects in a 3-Dimensional environment and to research techniques which help sell an effect and makes it look realistic.
